HW- On the media

In the segment "Our Privacy Delusions" things that stood out to me is that when facebook allowed the users an actual chance to vote how the website is governed, only 1% of the people actually engaged in it. Also that   emails that haven't been read yet don't actually go away when you delete them. People should know about this because people should care how facebook is ran and know that some of you messages might not get deleted.

In the segment "How to sort good information from bad on twitter" things that stood out to me was that even though some of the information on twitter might look good some of them are unreliable. If they do seem unreliable just don't follow them and find another who is credible.

In the segment "New Social Source" Tom Scott talked about how you can type certain things that someone has liked or where they have been and find the people who has done it. It should make people realize that some can see what you liked or post at a time in life you didn't too much about it and then have it show up years later when someone is searching for you.

In the segment "Facebook V. Europe" The Max Schrems part really surprised me getting a pile of papers of things he did on facebook and finding out somethings he posted on facebook never actually got deleted. I'm happy to know that people like Max is trying to protect our privacy. Its good to know this so people know that people like Max are out there trying to protect our privacy.

In the segment "That little thing called like" Showed that the like button is not just used to like something  but it is used to let brands advertised and send you information on what the brand is doing. This feature could be good or extremely annoying with the brand sending you information of them all the time.

Facebook V. Europe and Our Privacy Delusion are very alike to me. Both of these had a strong talks about the privacy issue in social. They both explain to you how your information is being put out there so easily and how you can make your page more private.

In Class Blog Post #10

I can use the information i have learned in this class to other classes I have in many ways. For my English class I can use what I've learned in how to use quotes and block paragraphs in my papers.  For all my classes I have learned the right and more in dept way of find information on a topic or subject. One thing that I just found out about in this class was easy bib, the site that helps me cite articles, websites, and ect. I have learned about APA citation which can help me in a future class that asks me to cite in that way. There are also things I have learned in this class that can help me in the real world. One of those things is copy right violation and plagiarism, the things I learned from these two showed me what they really are and the difference between the two. I can prevent myself from getting sued with this information finding out what causes a copy right invasion, which was information I did not know before this class. Also the searching skills I found out will help me look for better and more reliable information for anything I need to look up.

Annotated Bibliography

An annotated bibliography are a list of resources such as books, websites, journals and other sources with added notes to each of them. The annotated bibliography can tell what the book, journal or website is about. They also consist of three parts citation, summary, and annotation. The citation consist of 1 or 2 lines and would be in APA, MLA, or any other style a teacher would require. The summary should be no more then one or two sentences it should get the basic idea of the source. The annotation would be where you put why the source is great and how it will tie in with your final project. You are requiring us to do the annotated bibliography because it forces me to do my research early and not procrastinate. It also encourages me to think about the sources I choose and complete my final project on time. The annotated bibliography will help with the project by giving us better knowledge of the topic and have us think more on what we choose as a source. It will help us not procrastinate on the project. This is a great way to make sure our research is reliable and not faulty.

Special collections is apart of the UWG library where they hold historic materials and books. You can find there old letters, books, photographs, newspaper articles and other artifacts that can help out with your research.  Special collections can be found down stairs in the Ingram library. Special collections is a primary source that can help you find tons of information. You can use special collections for your research to help show previous accounts of what happened to something similar to your subject and relate it to yours. You also can use special collection as information on a specific date in history or if you want to know how people use to dress or act in a specific time period you could use the materials from special collections to help you.  It can also answer questions like, how were these people treated?

In claas blog post 7

The databases I used were ERIC at Ebsco and ABI/INFORM Complete(ProQuest). ON both of the data bases I searched up the terms social media and employees. In the Ebsco database I found a lot of information  using public schools as an example of employees complaining about how their social media accounts are being looked at by their employers, and how they're being judged by it. Also it shows a little more negative things about the subject than the other site. In ProQuest it talked more about how it can benefit a company and it leaned more towards the big corporation than the other site and it also talked about privacy but used more business office examples. Ebsco gave me options about education, privacy, web sites and computer mediated communication and ProQuest gave me statistical data, management, and industry wide conditions. They also had similarities like both had options of social sciences and privacy. Compared to Ebsco Academic search complete looks pretty much the same. I would use both of these for sources, if I want more of the business side I'll use ProQuest if I want more on the more regular Joe I would use Ebsco, but for my search I need both of these to answer my question precisely.

Filter bubble

In some ways I do feel like filter bubbles are in some ways a good thing. The most beneficial way is that the internet is basically caters to your likes and most visited sites. If you watch a lot of T.I. videos and listen to his music and that is what you usually do on the internet, then when you search for T.I. it won't give you some random thing that has the same it will give you T.I. the rapper.  If you have sites that you usually go to and it gets deleted off the internet, when you search for it the internet will give you sites that were similar to that one. On the opposite end filter bubbles can be negative for you. If you try to research something with the same name as something that you usually look up then it will give you what you usually look up then what you are currently trying to look up. Filter bubbles can really limit your results for what you are searching for. I believe that some of the ways to get rid of filter bubbles are pretty good, but also not so good such as disabling my cookies because then I can't get on some of my sites that I would usually get on, but telling facebook and google to make it easier to see and manage my filter is a pretty good one and I will probably try that.
