In the segment "Our Privacy Delusions" things that stood out to me is that when facebook allowed the users an actual chance to vote how the website is governed, only 1% of the people actually engaged in it. Also that emails that haven't been read yet don't actually go away when you delete them. People should know about this because people should care how facebook is ran and know that some of you messages might not get deleted.
In the segment "How to sort good information from bad on twitter" things that stood out to me was that even though some of the information on twitter might look good some of them are unreliable. If they do seem unreliable just don't follow them and find another who is credible.
In the segment "New Social Source" Tom Scott talked about how you can type certain things that someone has liked or where they have been and find the people who has done it. It should make people realize that some can see what you liked or post at a time in life you didn't too much about it and then have it show up years later when someone is searching for you.
In the segment "Facebook V. Europe" The Max Schrems part really surprised me getting a pile of papers of things he did on facebook and finding out somethings he posted on facebook never actually got deleted. I'm happy to know that people like Max is trying to protect our privacy. Its good to know this so people know that people like Max are out there trying to protect our privacy.
In the segment "That little thing called like" Showed that the like button is not just used to like something but it is used to let brands advertised and send you information on what the brand is doing. This feature could be good or extremely annoying with the brand sending you information of them all the time.
Facebook V. Europe and Our Privacy Delusion are very alike to me. Both of these had a strong talks about the privacy issue in social. They both explain to you how your information is being put out there so easily and how you can make your page more private.

In Class Blog Post #10
I can use the information i have learned in this class to other classes I have in many ways. For my English class I can use what I've learned in how to use quotes and block paragraphs in my papers. For all my classes I have learned the right and more in dept way of find information on a topic or subject. One thing that I just found out about in this class was easy bib, the site that helps me cite articles, websites, and ect. I have learned about APA citation which can help me in a future class that asks me to cite in that way. There are also things I have learned in this class that can help me in the real world. One of those things is copy right violation and plagiarism, the things I learned from these two showed me what they really are and the difference between the two. I can prevent myself from getting sued with this information finding out what causes a copy right invasion, which was information I did not know before this class. Also the searching skills I found out will help me look for better and more reliable information for anything I need to look up.

Annotated Bibliography
An annotated bibliography are a list of resources such as books, websites, journals and other sources with added notes to each of them. The annotated bibliography can tell what the book, journal or website is about. They also consist of three parts citation, summary, and annotation. The citation consist of 1 or 2 lines and would be in APA, MLA, or any other style a teacher would require. The summary should be no more then one or two sentences it should get the basic idea of the source. The annotation would be where you put why the source is great and how it will tie in with your final project. You are requiring us to do the annotated bibliography because it forces me to do my research early and not procrastinate. It also encourages me to think about the sources I choose and complete my final project on time. The annotated bibliography will help with the project by giving us better knowledge of the topic and have us think more on what we choose as a source. It will help us not procrastinate on the project. This is a great way to make sure our research is reliable and not faulty.

Special collections is apart of the UWG library where they hold historic materials and books. You can find there old letters, books, photographs, newspaper articles and other artifacts that can help out with your research. Special collections can be found down stairs in the Ingram library. Special collections is a primary source that can help you find tons of information. You can use special collections for your research to help show previous accounts of what happened to something similar to your subject and relate it to yours. You also can use special collection as information on a specific date in history or if you want to know how people use to dress or act in a specific time period you could use the materials from special collections to help you. It can also answer questions like, how were these people treated?

The databases I used were ERIC at Ebsco and ABI/INFORM Complete(ProQuest). ON both of the data bases I searched up the terms social media and employees. In the Ebsco database I found a lot of information using public schools as an example of employees complaining about how their social media accounts are being looked at by their employers, and how they're being judged by it. Also it shows a little more negative things about the subject than the other site. In ProQuest it talked more about how it can benefit a company and it leaned more towards the big corporation than the other site and it also talked about privacy but used more business office examples. Ebsco gave me options about education, privacy, web sites and computer mediated communication and ProQuest gave me statistical data, management, and industry wide conditions. They also had similarities like both had options of social sciences and privacy. Compared to Ebsco Academic search complete looks pretty much the same. I would use both of these for sources, if I want more of the business side I'll use ProQuest if I want more on the more regular Joe I would use Ebsco, but for my search I need both of these to answer my question precisely.

Filter bubble
In some ways I do feel like filter bubbles are in some ways a good thing. The most beneficial way is that the internet is basically caters to your likes and most visited sites. If you watch a lot of T.I. videos and listen to his music and that is what you usually do on the internet, then when you search for T.I. it won't give you some random thing that has the same it will give you T.I. the rapper. If you have sites that you usually go to and it gets deleted off the internet, when you search for it the internet will give you sites that were similar to that one. On the opposite end filter bubbles can be negative for you. If you try to research something with the same name as something that you usually look up then it will give you what you usually look up then what you are currently trying to look up. Filter bubbles can really limit your results for what you are searching for. I believe that some of the ways to get rid of filter bubbles are pretty good, but also not so good such as disabling my cookies because then I can't get on some of my sites that I would usually get on, but telling facebook and google to make it easier to see and manage my filter is a pretty good one and I will probably try that.

Last week the 4 type of information sources we talked about were books, scholarly articles, magazines, and newspapers. Each one of these are sources that we would use for research, but there all use for different from one another and are used differently. In books you will find well researched material that has been looked at by a publishing company, but not all books are the same some books are fiction and even if its non fiction it can still be a popular choice source. Its best that you look up the author of the book to see if he is really qualified. You would use a book to answer questions with quotes and facts from the book if the book was done with actual research you will have something to back it up with. A newspaper would help you find current information, but mind you that a lot of newspaper are popular choice sources or are biased, but you can still use the in your research by giving current examples to help answer your questions. Magazines are mostly used as flashy come read me type of deal, but they are fairly current. You can still use a magazine because it is pretty recent information on it, but make sure its still a decent story because magazines are usually seen as a popular choice source instead of scholarly. Scholarly articles will have well research material in there and is a very good source for research. They are a scholarly source that are very credible. You can use this in your research to give solid facts of information

Homework - February 13
After looking at the feedback from my research question homework I decided to change my research question up a little bit from my previous question. Now my research question is Why do employers look at their employees social media accounts? This question relates to the group topic very well because our topic was about this woman who was a teacher and is most likely getting fired for posting racy pictures and comments on her twitter. The principal of the found out and had put her on leave. My question is all about what happened to this teacher, why would he look at her facebook and put her on leave? Why does this matter? I will find the reasons in both of these question through my research. I shall put out the reasoning why an employer would look at someone social media accounts. I developed this new question because the feedback did show me flaws in my question so I decided to change my question into the new one that I have posted today. My new question feels better then my last and I feel like I can answer more with this one I will point out all the good reasons why they would look at an employers facebook or twitter and also point out all the negative reasons why as well.

Well I can use what I learned in this class to my others by, when I am researching for a project in one of my other classes I can use the evaluation criteria to help me find a credible source. This will make what I have researched for my project my legitimate and well put out then it was in my past projects. This class has also taught me how to paraphrase, so now in my papers I won't use so many quotes in them and my teachers won't think that I don't know what i'm doing. When I am looking for a book for my English class this summer I will know how to find on the Ingram library website by using the library catalog, before this class I never knew how to find a book in the library and I also now know how to do APA format so if my english teacher wants me too put my references in that format I already know how to do it

Citation
Safko,Lon, and David, K. Brake, The Social Media Bible: Tactics, Tools, and Strategies for Business. Hoboken, NJ: Jon Wiley & Sons,2009. Print. This book is about how you can use social media to expand your market. It gives advice what type of way you should approach your audience online and etc. Show you how to succeed in business using social media even as one person or a big company. I picked this book because the book was published in 2009 which makes it still fairly recent so it was not really outdated. The co author of the book seems qualified also he is the CEO of The Grandview and Consumer Conversation Expert. The book will help me answer parts of my question of how social media could benefit your professional life by giving a good example which is, social media could benefit you by helping you sell you brand.

When I think about the difference between what my library had for research tools from high school to college I can say I had or at least knew more library research tools in college than in high school. In high school I did have Galileo and Credo Reference for sure, but we never had any library catalog or at least one as good as the I have in college now. Nothing really surprised me with what we have in college since I expect that my possible searching tools would be better than they were from high school. In high school I had some trouble using Galileo because nobody taught us how to use it, but in college they had people from some of my classes come teach us how to use the search tools the library gives us which helped very much. I learned how using and, or will give you two different searches and be pretty broad when your searching for a book in the library catalog.

Two Books
I went to the library and searched in the library catalog for two books on my topic of How could social media could be used to benefit your professional life. I typed in the search bar social media and business and saw two books that i felt like I could potentially use for my topic. one was Social Media Playbook for Business and The Social Media Bible tactics, tools and strategies for business, I used the evaluation criteria to see which one would be better. The Social Media Playbook for Business was published in 2011 making pretty recent, the author of it was Funk, Tom who is a former MLB pitcher who played for the Houston Astros which gave me signs to maybe not use this book for my research. While the other book The Social Media Bible tactics, tools and strategies for business was published in 2009, it isn't as recent as the other, but still fairly recent so it was not really outdated. There were two authors on this book, but I could only find information on one, the co author Brake, David. K who is the CEO of The Grandview and Consumer Conversation Expert. When comparing the two it seems like The Social Media Bible tactics, tools and strategies for business would be the better choice both books were fairly recent, but one was done by someone who had a questionable background for me to use for my topic. I will use this source to answer my question how can social media benefit your professional life.

In class blog post 3
My group and I decided to do our research on Should social media impact your professional life. We based our news story on a article about a 23 year old high school teacher who was found with pictures of her self naked and smoking weed on her twitter account and having a tweet about having weed in car when she was at work. We picked this topic because as the first generation to grow up with social media this would affect us the most. It personally interest me because as someone with a facebook and has previous work experience I wonder if your boss it is okay or wrong for your boss to look on your facebook and judge you for something you have previously done or said in your own personal life. This subject does goes with my major which is Management Information Systems where you deal with how technology is or can be used for business. Using social media like facebook or twitter to decide if you should have or keep a job falls right into my ally.

If someone jumped in one of my conversations and it was about football I would want to know if they actually knew anything about whats going on and not just be some creeper coming in a conversation. I would usually say a couple of big time names like Mike Vick, Peyton Manning, or RGIII to see if they even know the basics of what we are talking about and then I would ask them what is there favorite team and if they say some other sports team like the LA Lakers then I know for a fact they have know idea what they are talking about and probably stop talking and try to make the least awkward exit. I would really start paying attention to what they are saying once they mention one of my favorite teams or players. If they start talking about a really big play that had happened recently that would really catch my attention like Ray Lewis giving a big hit to a player and he picks up the fumble and run it back for a touchdown. Something like that would really catch my attention and would also clarify that you know what the conversation is about.

Interview
I interviewed Josh Scroggins who is an upper-level RA at UWG. When I asked him the question about what type of sources his professors required from him, he told me that his professors never really required any specific sources too him but did recommend Galileo and other type of searching tools that the library has to offer on their site. I also asked him what types of sites worked for him and what didn't and he stated that Wikipedia(one of the obvious choices) did not work for him because anybody could change whatever was on their and also said that you have to be careful with sites that end with .edu because a lot of them are owned by private places and could be very bias even though it still gives good information. The information could be bias and should check out other sources as-well but the sources he does like and suggest on using are things that are cited by scholarly articles and usually anything by Newly York times. Scroggins also stated that the way he researched in high school is completely different than now in college. Back in high school he use to use wikipedia and sparknotes but here in college he told me his professors do not play that and his research skills have became better in every way

My Favorite Research Project
My favorite research project that I had to do was in my 12th grade Government class. We had to make a fake campaign for a political party that we made up. My classmates and I decided to make fun of a more radical republican party, so we decided to make a video showing our views on certain issues in the country. We didnt have to look for much information because my teacher gave us a list of topics and since it was pretty much that we can make up information there was not that much need for looking anything up. We didn't have to really do a presentation like with powerpoints or standing up and talking we just basiclly said here is our video and played it. That project was my favorite because that was the last one I got to do with my high school friends and we had a whole lot of fun while doing shooting the video like when we went to taco bell for the project and asked the employees funny stupid questions.

B-Skinny Cofee
Well the first thing i did was look somewhere on the site for an author, but i could not find one anywhere. I even looked in the contact page, but all I found was two sentences saying to contact the person who told you about the site. This was the first thing that made me not think this was a real site. If you look at the copyright it says 2011 which is fairly recent ,but if you go to the references most of the references were way out dated and one was from the 80's. Some of the references are completely irrelevant like the one reference referring to an article about Anti-Obesity action of oolong tea. The person who wrote this goal was to tell you about this amazing healthy tea that is suppose to help you lose weight. This website is directed to people who are 16 and over. I believe this is paid advertisement in disguise because there are plenty of ads to other websites on the homepage. There is no real bias information on this site that I saw, but some of the pages are pretty irrelevant like the about us page because it gives you the same crappy two sentences saying to contact the person who told you about the site. All in all the site seems pretty much like a fake website and I would never tell anyone to get on it

My name is Doug Sands and I was born and raised in Marietta,Ga. I decided to go to UWG because I heard a lot about it from my friends in High school. I major in Management Information Systems and I would like to become a system analyst or Web developer with it. I expect out of this class to be able to learn how to search for certain subjects and books using the library.
